Summary/Abstract: The article presents the problem of how to shape the careers of employees in an organization that works in changing environment. Competition on the market and the specific changes in organization’s environment, such as decreasing the number of skilled workers, new patterns of family life, increasing the number of women on the labour market, the new men’s expectations, characteristics of generation X and Y and expanding the impact of IT on the work require changes in perception of workforce development and in the shape of organization’s activities in this area. One possible response to this challenge is the customization of careers in the organization, taking into account individual pace, workload, location/schedule and role in accordance with the capacities and needs of employees arising from the stage of their lives.
