Summary/Abstract: When discussing possibilities of increasing the competitiveness of agriculture, the factor often stressed in many studies is the need to improve the agrarian structure. Knowledge of the process of its formation and desired direction of its change is essential for the proper formulation of the objectives of agricultural policy. For this reason, the paper presents the results of descriptive statistical analysis of the transformation of the agrarian structure of Polish agriculture, from the perspective of the impact of certain measures within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy. The analysis shows that, after the first decade of membership in the EU, we may observe even more clearly the positive transformations in the main characteristics of the agrarian structure. This favourable process took place regardless of the relatively postponed effects of CAP measures, because a crucial role in this regard has been played by the macroeconomic conditions, particularly the general economic growth and a situation in the labour market. We may expect that these interrelations will continue to be important in the future.
