Summary/Abstract: The present paper discusses a process of the occurence of the surnames and nicknames in the Podlasie region in the 15th–18th centures. The development of the naming system of the Polish-Eastern Slavic language borderland in this region should be explained by the influence of definite linguistic and non-linguistic factors.
