Summary/Abstract: While capitalism is a term widely used, its definition is still debated in the scientific literature. Another debatable issue is also the effectiveness of varieties of capitalism. Until recently, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe were defined as economies in transition, but in recent years there have been some attempts taken to classify economic systems, which these countries have chosen. In the early years of transition, it seemed that these countries would follow the Anglo - Saxon capitalism. In fact, often they are still far away from it. What type of capitalism have these countries created? The aim of the paper is to systematize the research on models of capitalism, with particular reference to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
