Summary/Abstract: In this article is given attention to the Gypsy contribution for introduction and validation of the accordion in the Bulgarian folk music. The issues covered in the survey are related with the processes relating to the of the urban instrumental music culture in Bulgaria after the middle of the 20th century, which led to the introduction of the accordion in the musical practice. The most substantial contribution to the promotion of the accordion in the folk music have Gypsy musicians turned into emblem of the accordion art – Boris Karlov, Ibro Lolov, Misho Gyurov, Traycho Sinapov, Martin Lyubenov, etc. In this direction are separated four generations of Gypsy-accordionists, which define the main directions for the transformation and modernization of the folklore heritage. First generation - founders classics /30s and 40s of the 20th century/; second generation – recipient virtuosos /50s and 60s of the 20th century/; third generation – wedding virtuoso /60s and 70s of the 20th century/ and fourth generation – experimenters virtuosos /since the beginning of the 90s of the 20th century/. The contribution of the most prominent representatives of generations is clarified, stylistic features of their performance style and their contribution to the development of Bulgarian folk performing art.
