Summary/Abstract: It is emphasised that Arab decorative epigraphy is a specific case and highest model of calligraphy in Islamic art. The Arab decorative epigraphy is not only met in diverse forms of applied art, but it has also extensive application in architectural decoration, which gives it monumental character. This on its part is the reason to consider it also as monumental epigraphy. It is emphasised, that one of the most substantial characteristics of the Arabic-Muslim and Persian decorative epigraphy is connected with the contents of the inscriptions, since it is orientated mainly towards religious texts - mainly ajeti from the Koran, which as a rule are inscribed in a beautiful calligraphic writing because of their sacred character. Attention is drawn to the fact that reproducing calligraphic religious texts the Arab-Muslim and Persian decorative epigraphy is substantially different from the Ottoman-Turkish epigraphy, which is orientated towards texts with nonreligious contents or informational texts. This is the reason that the texts reproduced by the Ottoman- Turkish epigraphy, do not have decorative function, but are not devoid of calligraphic value, since they are also Arab in graphics...
