Summary/Abstract: On the facades of some of the Ottoman monuments, preserved up to the present in Bulgaria, apart from the stone reliefs, there are also birdhouses. There are such birdhouses on the facades of both non-cult buildings and mosques. Such birdhouses could be seen on the facades of non-cult buildings and mosques mostly in Northeast Bulgaria, built during the period 16th – 18th century. They are to be found more frequently on mosques than on non-cult buildings. An especially impressive example is the mosque of Ibrahim Pasha, which has approximately fifty birdhouses on its facade. On the other hand, almost all birdhouses have an artistic arrangement, although in different degree. Very typical in this respect are the houses on the facade of the Kurshunlu mosque in Silistra, which are of a high artistic value.
