Summary/Abstract: The new social circumstances with the ownership transformation of public property into private, creating quite differently and the conditions necessary to the protection of private archives in Montenegro set up a completely new basis. The paper discusses the experience of historical archives of Kotor, which since 1992. from independent archival institutions with well-developed activity protection of private archives are private property of citizens, is becoming a centralized department of the National Archives and formal - legal loses the ability to continue to perform this work, despite the confidence of citizens and their request to relinqinsh their archival material to the archive.
