Summary/Abstract: In order to increase energy potential, and in line with the European Union’s directives, Poland has been obliged to increase the use of renewable resources to produce energy, in particular wind power. However, wind farms affect the environment and people negatively through changes to the landscape, impact on bird population, noise emission and infrasound. Accordingly, in order to minimize these effects it is essential to establish suitable wind farms locations which also meet the requirements of environmental protection law. It is a complex process and it requires consideration of many legal regulations, such as environmental impact assessments, area development and planning, environmental protection law with particular focus on the areas covered by Natura 2000, as well as conservation and protection of cultural heritage, water rights and building regulations.
