Summary/Abstract: Whether a journalist, politician or clerk, Slavici always worked with conviction. His passion was being a teacher, proving a vocation for this job. In the paper SLAVICI AND THE PEDAGOGICAL VOCATION we present the revealing of his vocation and its manifestation while writing books, analyzing different representative paragraphs. Slavici discovered his pedagogical talent in Șiria, Arad and Timișoara. While he was a pupil, he successfully assisted a child so as to pass his first exam. At Timisoara he supervised two girls of four and five years to learn writing and reading by playing, in Romanian, Hungarian and German. At the end of his life he wrote papers and handbooks for his own teaching program, applied in Bucharest: The Grammar of Romanian Language, Universal History, A Handbook for the Secondary School, The Rational Education, and Physical Education. All of these show Slavici vision in Pedagogy Ŕ through interdisciplinary, in psychology Ŕ through the theory of a needsř hierarchic system, and in history, through placing Romania both in Orient, as well as in Occident.
