Summary/Abstract: When trying to define the concept of the "fantastic" in literature any definition may remain incomplete. The multiplicity of forms and aspects that characterize this aesthetic category makes any attempt to find a universally accepted definition impossible. This concept is constantly changing with the evolution of society, and taking new forms, remains timeless. Fantastic literature gives rise to a paradox: although it is difficult to be defined, it is easily recognizable even by non-specialist reader. In some of his short stories, such as La hanul lui Mânjoală or Kir Ianulea, Caragiale uses the concept of fantastic.
