Summary/Abstract: In our cultural landscape, Vatra magazine sits under the sign of a remarkable destiny. In the noble lineage of Dacia literară and Tribuna, Vatra appeared in 1894 in Bucharest, with the subtitle "Foaie ilustrată pentru familie". Its founders were three of the most prominent writers of the era: I.L. Caragiale, George Coşbuc and Ioan Slavici. National and traditional orientation is explicitly expressed in the article "Vorba de acasă". The three founders' intention was to contribute to the cultural and spiritual unification of Romanians, exceeding the arbitrary political boundaries.
