Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the analysis of Jeanette Winterson’ novel Written on the body (1992). The complete process of reading the text is under the sign of ambiguity and indeterminacy as a consequence of the use of many postmodern techniques. Thus, identity is created while deconstructing the binary opposition male/female by suspending the narrator’s gender who can be considered both a he or a she. Winterson includes in her writing a world of possibilities where the traditional stories are rewritten and reinterpreted in a postmodern manner. Transgressing the limits between genders, testing the limits of language and fictionality along with the use of irony, literary allusions and self-reflexivity are proofs of the text inclusion in the postmodern aesthetics.
