Relationship between perceived creativity, social status and self-concept among the gifted schoolchildren

Summary/Abstract: This study involved 259 Grade 4 and 6 Lithuanian schoolchildren and 11 tutors from different schools in Kaunas. There were 123 boys and 136 girls, and the age range was from 9 to 12. Purpose of master work is to determine relationship between perceived creativity, social status and self-concept among the gifted schoolchildren. The research methods. In order to evaluate the quality of relationship of capable children was used LMLL [2] and to evaluate reputation among contemporaries was used RCP [6] which was supplemented with creativity questions (“He / She has vivid imagination and brings forward creative ideas”). To evaluate self-concept of gifted schoolchildren was used MMSI [1; 4]. To evaluate the capability of schoolchildren was used the questionnaire of capable child [7]. Results: The results show that gifted schoolchildren are considered as popular among the contemporaries. Positive reputation (sociability – leadership) among contemporaries was much more noticeable for girls comparing to boys, but aggressive-disruptive – for boys. Social status and reputation among the contemporaries makes influence to self-concept of high capability and medium capability schoolchildren. There is a relationship between social status, self-concept and perceived creativity. The self-concept, social status (reputation among the contemporaries) of capable schoolchildren is related to perceived creativity of contemporaries and teachers.
