Summary/Abstract: Trolling is a notable aspect of computer-mediated communication and online gamer culture. The results of the paper are based on a netnographic research of a community of gamers that primarily play together the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, World of Warcraft. The following paper attempts to comprehend the emerging cultural phenomenon of trolling and other non-goal oriented actions in the context of the game, construing it as a carnivalesque and performative element of contemporary online culture.
