Summary/Abstract: The Finanz- und Hofkammerarchiv Direction of Vienna preserves two ennoblement demands addressed to the Vienna Emperor in 1759 by the members of the Armenian families Verczar (Werczar), Christoff (Kristoff), Simai (Simai), Gorovei, Balta and Kovrig who came to Gherla from Moldavia. In order to obtain their noble title, they promised to give to the imperial Treasury the huge amount of 10.000 Florins and ensure the House of Habsburg that such goodwill did not also mean tax exemption. At the same time, these documents attest the Armenian origin of the Gorovei family.
