Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to describe the classification of jokes on the example of the German language. The question of what determines text to be understood as a humorous and what structure and characteristics it must have in order to be classified as a joke is also important and particularly interesting. These considerations have been covered with the joke examples that come from the German websites. The analysis of the jokes offered on the German website has proved that three joke groups (the women jokes, the blonde jokes and the occupations jokes), that enjoy the greatest popularity with the recipients and that they have “good” and “very good” reviews, can be distinguished. The analysis of the texts shows that polysemy was most often used for the humorous purposes. While analyzing the script , it was noted that in most cases, especially in the group of women and man and the blonde jokes, the subject and the target can be equated with variations on the theme and the target in occupations jokes, depending on which profession they are addressed to, and which qualities of the figures should be emphasized.
