Summary/Abstract: This article reviews current research about the correlation of the level of optimism and happiness with the functioning of close relationships. Happiness and optimism encourage helping, tolerance, good commmunication, sympathy towards others, solving conflicts, moral behaviours, empathy, listening skills. They also reduce the probability of divorce and improve the relationship satisfaction. The article proposes psychoeducational means to promote happiness and optimism in romantic relationships.
