Summary/Abstract: Economic regional diversity in Poland has on the one hand a structural nature; on the other hand; is conditioned by the collapse of industrial regions and history. As a result; Polish space is characterized by three types of imbalances: the development gap between big cities and the rest of the country; between eastern and western Poland and growing intra-regional disparities. In view of new challenges faced by the Polish; regional policy is becoming one of the most important elements of development policy; especially towards problem areas. The current regional policy has not fully fulfilled its functions; because the regions are looking for new possibilities and development potentials. The purpose of this article is an attempt to examine the rationality of the impact of cohesion policy on the development of problem areas on the example of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The analysis of issues: voivodeship allowed the formulation of some general conclusions and recommendations for decision-makers.
