Summary/Abstract: The present article identifies a Byzantine source of an anonymous Old Bulgarian homily on the Dormition of the Theotokos (BHBS: 608–609). The Greek source of the Old Bulgarian text is the Second Homily on the Dormition of the Theotokos by John of Da-Damascus (BHG № 1097; CPG № 8062; Kotter 1988: 516–540). The Old Bulgarian homily on the Dormition of the Theotokos is a translation-compilation (without beginning and end) of the Second Homily on the Dormition of the Theotokos by John of Damascus, made most probably by John Exarch. Selected expressions, passages, and chapters were translated and compiled from the Greek text (from Kotter 2, 36 tо 19, 1–3; 4–5). The Historia Euthymiaca (Kotter 18, 1–68) was translated in full. The article also outlines new prospects for further analysis of the Old Bulgarian text.
