Summary/Abstract: Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo, was established in the academic year of 1973/74, as a result of a need for qualified personnel in the field of pharmacy, as an inseparable part of the integrated science of health. In this period, three faculties of pharmacy had already existed, namely in Zagreb, Belgrade and in Ljubljana, each with a long tradition. That is why the organization of Sarajevo Faculty of Pharmacy was developed in accordance to those faculties. Teachers from these faculties were included in realization of teaching process at our faculty and that practice still exists. The study lasted for four years and after third year all the students were obliged to do some practical work at pharmacies. Curriculum the Sarajevo Faculty of Pharmacy was adjusted to the EU countries’ pharmacy faculties in 1991, because our faculty was made a member of the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy. The study was extended to five years and the students had to write the final paper, while practical work in pharmacies was not obligatory. Soon after that, war broke out in Bosnia and Herzegovina and all activities were adjusted to the situation. The situation was difficult even after the war, which ended in 1995. The faculty had to adjust to the situation once again, this time with no possibilities of organization of a new educative process. In that sense, position of the Faculty of Pharmacy was even more difficult than of some other faculties. There was need for some kind of activities that would improve the teaching process and which would create better conditions for the students. Higher education reform and introduction of the Bologna process, especially adoption of the Sarajevo Canton Law on Higher Education, is seen as a positive change at the faculty, especially in the sense of scientific research. In that sense, Sarajevo Faculty of Pharmacy can be compared to the faculties of pharmacy in the countries like Austria, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Estonia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia.
