Summary/Abstract: An intense and international historical debate on the presence of the Jews in the Italian peninsula has developed during the last thirty years. A deeper and articulate analyse of the sources, marked by the discovery of the Jewish documents, rather ignored in Italy for a long time, has casted new light on the history of Italian Jewry in Medieval and Modern Age. The new scenario describes not only a besieged Jewish world, but a minority society that, when it was possible, tried to develop its own political tradition and organization.
