Castles on the Market Stall. The Case of Belchin

Summary/Abstract: The article analyses a telling attempt at promoting cultural tourism as a means for the well being and growth of the village of Belchin. It traces the gradual development of the initiative for the reconstruction of the archaeological heritage and other similar acquisitions: ethnographic museum, a new monument, tourist routes, a hotel, etc. The key question is about the future fate of such projects and to what extent they can contribute to the sustainable development of the local communities.
