Crossroads in Albanian Folk Beliefs

Summary/Abstract: In this article there is provided an overview of the crossroad as a place in which, according to popular belief, made magic various actions, from healing to the victim’s behavior, expression of major requirements and desires; prayers which are connected first of all with life and death, fertility and removal of evil. Crossroad in popular mentality is seen as no man’s land, and as a perfect place to per-form a ritual to cast a spell, or to create a makeshift altar. People perceived crossroad as a place “between worlds”, the place where supernatural spirits can be contacted and may be exercised paranormal events.
