Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this article is the analysis of the papers which had been published before the first publication of Darwin’s On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. The authors of these publications are Patrick Matthew (1831), Edward Blyth (1835), and Alfred Russel Wallace (1855). So far, these texts were scarcely an object of interest of Polish scholars but are important in the history of the theory of evolution.
