The Islamic State versus Al-Qaeda - who will win?

Summary/Abstract: 2014 brought up inside the global power equation a new player, the Islamic State. Born in the mistof the Middle East protracted crisis, the Islamic State organization tends to assimilate Al Qa’ida (AQ) and to take over the leading role of the global Jihadist movements. Will AQ disappear? Will the Islamic State succeed in unifying and ruling the global jihadist movement? Are we going to witness the emergence of the global “caliphate”, with “provinces” spread all over the world? Or, on the contrary, the Islamic State will disappear? Will AQ return in force or we will face the fourth wave of terrorism, the “lonely wolves” one?
