Summary/Abstract: What will we find in the black box of Eastern European societies after the fatal collapse of communism? The De-Sovietization of "Other Europe" allows the unification of Germany. But isn't it also the prelude to the resurgence of old nationalist conflicts that have long been neutralized by imperial power? There is no shortage of disputes between "brother countries", starting with the fate of the national minorities and thus the legitimacy of the borders. Nobody between the Baltic and the Adriatic can be sure to be spared.
