Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the topic of intercultural competencies that are necessary to communicate successfully in a foreign language. 2008 was announced as the year of culture which provoked reconsideration of the role of the intercultural approach in foreign language learning and the teachers’ willingness to implement it in the classroom.
