Summary/Abstract: The article presents some peculiarities in the Romans’ ideas and notions of the sea dealing with examples from Ovid’s five books Tristia. Here in generalized form are presented the main specifics of the notion of the sea in the context of both the Greek and Roamn epic literature within the framework of the Roman elegiac literature.
