Summary/Abstract: The donations made to Orthodox monasteries and churches by the princes of Wallachia and Moldavia are an integral part of Romanian history. The present study brings forward new sources from the middle of the eighteenth century concerning the financial aid given by Wallachian princes to the monastery of St. Elias in Deropoli (Dryinupoleos), in Epirus. From the four charters, published in full in the appendix, the motivations for the princely munificence become apparent. The generosity of the Wallachian princes was driven by the poverty of the monastery but also by their strong and long-lived dedication to Epirus, where many of them had their ancestry.
