ABOUT THE ORIENTAL PHILOLOGY DEPARTMENT AS THE MOTHER DEPARTMENT FOR ARABIC LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE AT SARAJEVO UNIVERSITY

Summary/Abstract: The Department for Oriental Philology at The Faculty of Philosophy since the establishment of the faculty and the department (both were established in the year 1950) has always been the only mother department for Arabic language and literature at Sarajevo University. So is the case for other language and literature departments at Sarajevo University: The Faculty of Philosophy is the mother department for languages and literature. The study of languages pertains to academic field of linguistics, and study of literature pertains to the academic field of literature, and The Faculty of Philosophy is mother department of both academic fields at Sarajevo University. Other faculties of Sarajevo University may, through their plan and programme include the study of languages in some semesters, but at these faculties languages represent only tools for mastering academic fields for which these faculties are the mother departments.
