Summary/Abstract: The Middle East is a region of the strategic role on many planes – political, military and economic. The beginning of the XXI century is a time of significant readjustments on the international arms market, with the continued trend of increased military spending, also with regard to the Middle East countries. An important factor to affect the level of military spending in the region is the present turbulence in some of the Middle East countries, particularly the armed conflict in Syria, military activity of the Islamic State (ISIC) and the tensions around Iran. At the onset of the XXI century, countries of the region still rank very high as the major importers of military equipment. Economic forecasts suggest that the region under study will attract major arms exporters for the foreseeable future. It must be noted, however, that the competition in the Middle East is fierce.
