Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of the profitability of extractive industry companies belonging to the twenty largest companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. For the purposes of cause-and-effect analysis Du Pont method was used, which was supported by the method of differentiation. Du Pont method is one of the basic models of multi-assessment of the financial condition of operators. Financial analysis allows to assess the impact of net profit margin and asset turnover on the formation of return on assets, while the rate of return on assets, together with the adopted strategy by the management of the debt, affects the return on equity. The starting point for the discussion is talking over basic issues related to the method of Du Pont. The rest of the article is devoted to the analysis of the profitability of extractive industry companies from WIG20 index using a multicriterion analysis indicator.
