Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the main aspects related to the forest areas existing in Southern Moldavia, between the Siret and the Pruth rivers, during the second half of the XIXth century. The article offers information on the administrative – territorial division, surface and number of forests, location within the main geomorphological units and the dendrological component, based on the comprehensive study of a cartographic document not much studied so far (The Forest Charter of Romania, printed in Iaşi, in 1869) and of the geographical dictionaries of the three counties, published between 1887 and 1897 by the Romanian Geographical Society.
