Summary/Abstract: One of the main topics in Hellenistic philosophy is the problem of the criterion of truth. In this article I attempt to present a general outline of the lively debate between three of the central schools of thought in ancient Hellenistic philosophy – the Stoics, the Epicureans and the Academic skeptics. On the one hand, this debate is centered upon the possibility of justifying the claim to have certain knowledge of the world. On the other hand, the Sceptics were trying to prove that we do not have enough reasons to hold that we can attain some kind of inner understanding of how things are in reality. My main thesis in this paper will be to demonstrate that the problem of the criterion of truth is rather an epistomological concern than logical.
