Interdependence between the level of economic development and the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption in the European Union

Summary/Abstract: One of the priorities of the European Union is to increase the share of energy from renewable sources in the primary energy for the Union as a whole.The main aim of this article is to analyze the relationship between the level of economic development and the share of renewable energy in energy production in the European Union. Based on available data, there was conducted the rank of countries according to the share of energy from re-newable sources in production and according to the gross domestic product. Next the ob-tained linear orderings were compared. Countries were classified on the ground of the par-ticipation of renewable energy in each of them. Created groups were compared with the list of countries where the degree of policy objectives on renewable energy was the highest.
