Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to assess the efficiency of investing in wind energy in the European Union countries. The assessment is based on the BCC method in Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), which is an input-oriented approach. In the basic variant of the model, the installed wind capacity is assumed as the input variable. The output variable is generation of electricity. Other variants of the analysis account for environmental and economic factors in addition to electricity generation. Three countries, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Slovakia, prove to be efficient. When the environment is taken into account, the greatest increase in efficiency is observed in countries with high shares of coal in their electricity generation, while from the perspective of economy, the countries with the largest shares of gas and oil gain the most.
