The DEA method in the analysis of effectiveness expenditure on waste management

Summary/Abstract: Waste management is one of the most neglected areas of environmental protection in Poland. Numerous obligations arising from EU directives make Poland need to increase an investment in this area of management. However, not only the size but also efficiency of the investment in waste management is important. The purpose of this article is to assessvoivodeships in terms of efficiency of the investment in waste management. I analyzed Polish voivodeships because this area of the economy remains the responsibility of local governments. The study used the DEA method, which showed two effective voivodeships: Małopolskie and Opolskie. For the other voivodeships the amount of additional expenditures needed to render them effective were estimated.
