Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the impact of the spatial weights matrix on the result of the European Union countries ranking due to the standard of living. The proper structure of spatial relationship is an important research issue, since it allows to extend the standard of living analysis of the immeasurable spatial effects. Moreover, it avoids cognitive errors and increases the reliability of the analyzes. The taxonomy spatial measure of development constructed by E. Antczak was used as an approximation of the standard of living. In this paper, several variants of the spatial weights matrix were used, for exampe: spatial contiguity matrix, shared-boundary weight matrix, geografical distance matrix and economic distance matrix. The results of the analysis indicate that the final shape of the ranking is dependent on the method of constructing the spatial weights matrix.
