Summary/Abstract: In the article, the maritime policy, which was created on the international forum, was compared to maritime policies of selected countries. Technological and scientific progress favours the discovery of new possibilities of using sea areas in business activity. Hence it's necessary to regulate the basic issues connecting with the safety of people and the seas. The purpose of this article was to review of strategies of seas and oceans created at various levels. Global solutions were compared to national maritime policies. The countries, which policies were analysed, are the largest maritime eco-nomies - therefore they have the greatest influence upon the seas' condition. The method of critical analysis and benchmarking were used in this article. The study was generally based on the normative acts and reports related to various aspects of the management of marine resources.
