IOACHIM CRĂCIUN, STAGES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT (1898-1948)

Summary/Abstract: One of the rarest cases from Romanian historiography, where the work outruns the name of the author in fame, refers to historian and bibliographer from Cluj, Ioachim Crăciun. Paradoxically, although Historical Bibliography of Romania represents naturally the first instrument accessed by any historical researcher, the personality and the work of its creator are far too little known. That is why, within this study, we decided to focus on the main phases from the scientific life and activity, until the instauration of the communist regime in Romania, of the person, who was wrongfully acknowledged only as founder of the bibliological school from Cluj. Unfortunately, Ioachim Crăciun faced, next to his colleagues, the new political realities from after 1945, that marked them tragically both personal life and scientific activity. Their main imputation within a new democratic-popular Romania was that of being trained and having progressed professionally during the interwar period, one that was vehemently denied by the new authorities.
