Essays and Sufism in Ćatić's work

Summary/Abstract: Much has been written about Ćatić the poet and translator, from every perspecctive. But almost nothing is known of Ćatić the essayist, although his essays on Persian and Turkish divan poets and prose writers speak volumes of the breadth of this poet’s education. One of Ćatić’s texts entitled The Influence of Persians on Turkish Poetry occupies a particular place among his essays. It is plain to see from this essay that Persian Sufi poetry had a powerful influence on Ćatić’s own verses as well, and that Ćatić had studied Sufism, understood it and interpreted it with great skill.
