Summary/Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to identify the most common grammatical errors committed by first year English philology students and to discuss the importance of error analysis in teaching English as a foreign language. This can help to improve the effectiveness of foreign language teaching and at the same time it can be useful for the FL learners themselves. The subjects of the investigation are English philology students; their written production of English is the object of the investigation. In order to achieve the main goal the following tasks will be accomplished: 1. Collection of empirical language material. 2. Systematization of the data. 3. Analysis. 4. Summing up the results after the analysis. The frame that is used in this work follows the original frame of Dafina Kostadinova’s PhD Thesis, 2012, Structural interferences in the production of English by Bulgarians.
