Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the presentation of the differentiation of genitive plural forms of some feminine nouns (of the type: "tych cioci" || "cioć", "funkcji" || "funkcyj") in the descriptions of Polish inflection. The authors in their previous works and in the first edition of the Grammatical Dictionary of Polish (SGJP) treated this differentiation as an inflectional category and called it “uniformity”. Then they changed their interpretation and for reasons presented in the paper decided that such pairs are not in inflectional contrast (and uniformity is not an inflectional category). Their members are free variants, although one of them is often marked (cf. "funkcyj", "studzien", "cukierń" with "funkcji", 'studni", "cukierni"), and in the second edition of SGJP they are treated in this way.
