Solitude from the axiological perspective: A privilege and the highest blessing or the worst misfortune and a curse

Summary/Abstract: A contemporary human being facing the unprecedented progress in various areas of life has to relate to and solve existentially important problems and dilemmas which have accompanied the human species from time immemorial. Among those, the problems of being alone and being lonely have not been satisfactorily solved so far. They can be discussed from different points of view: philosophical, psychological, pedagogical, and interdisciplinary. This text presents the axiological assumptions which are situated in the base of any educational process. Those assumptions are the starting point for the searching for the essence and place of solitude, as well as for its meaning in the anthropospheric universe. The important postulates for education result from the reflections undertaken by the author. It is important not only to protect pupils from solitude, teach them how overcome it and introduce them into the logic of cooperation, but also to strengthen their independence and responsibility for themselves. In the process of such a growth one cannot exclude the experience of a creative solitude which is a chance to achieve self-perfection.
