Summary/Abstract: Both silence and dialogue have been discussed by researchers since the ancient times. However, the phenomenon of silence very rarely becomes the main subject of research. Little number of works dealing with silence has an impact on how the axiological foundations of education are laid down. Silence being inseparable from thinking is an essential element of human existence, a certain state and process, and undoubtedly an art which is not easy to grasp. The phenomenon of silence, in a variety of ways’, has accompanied humanity through ages playing different roles in human life. Silence stems from various sources, assumes different aspects and has multiple functions. What is important from the point of view of university education is not only the question of what is the subject of silence or where and when one keeps silent, but also of what can be gained and achieved through silence. In university education silence can transmit force to spoken words, strengthen their sense and meaning, and become an inspiration to epistemological and exploratory tasks in different areas of life. It can also incline to face important and endless challenges.
