Sources of information on innovation within the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The article presents available sources of information on innovation within the European Union. The analysis was carried out on the basis of Community Innovation Survey (CIS) data, covering the 2008-2010 period. The article is divided into two parts: the first one explains the nature of innovation and innovation process, while the second identifies the available sources of information on innovation within individual member countries of the EU, with particular regard given to the differences between the manufacturing and the service sectors. The analysis has demonstrated that the enterprises belonging to the service sector use internal sources of information on innovation more frequently than the manufacturing ones. In a majority of countries, customers constitute a very significant source of information on innovation for both service and manufacturing sectors.
