Summary/Abstract: After the end of the civil war in Greece with the victory of the right and with the dissociation of Yugoslavia from the Eastern Block, Albania became the first barricade, the extreme frontier between the West and the East, obtaining thus a great strategic importance. Under this situation, the Greek minority, which was spread in the border area between Albania and Greece, acquired great importance. The article tries to analyze the influence of the international situation on the politics of the Albanian government concerning the Greek minority in the beginning of the '50s. It argues that the Greek minority in Albania succeeded to obtain some concessions, while suffering from some lacks. Notwithstanding the ideological censuring, the Greek minority enjoyed numerous concessions aiming the preservation of its national identity. The integration of the Greek minority inside the political and social life had become main policy for the Albanian government. The decision of the Political Bureau on January 28, 1950, placed the Greek minority under the particular attention of the government in the economic field, as well, offering a higher standard of living, often higher than the rest of the population. The article emphasizes that, as an 'exchange' for this attention on the economic and social field, the Greek minority had to face the disadvantage of a continuous control by the instances of the dictatorship and suffer from a complete isolation. Even if this was a general policy that the rest of the population had to face as well, I believe that the Greek minority has endured this situation in a deeper manner, due to the lack of communication with their cultural and ethnic pedigree.
