Summary/Abstract: The elections of 2 December 1945 were an important moment in the history of KPA and in establishing the monopoly on power in the country. They ended a process that had started since the WWII. The Albanian communists after had been able to take the power needed now to legitimate it. The decisions taken in the Conference of Yalta conditioned the recognition of the new provisory governments in the liberated countries with the conduct free and democratic elections. Such a condition was also put forward also to Albanian government by the western allies: USA, and Great Britain. The Albanian communist government in order to guarantee its own power made all the efforts to ensure the victory in the elections of 2 December 19345 by maintaining the image of free and democratic elections. During a period of almost one year it: Firstly, conducted a violent campaign in all the regions where the population had not supported the communists by putting them under control through use of fear. Secondly, it made careful use of the propaganda in favour of the Democratic Front by exploiting for this reason individuals with influence in different area of the country which were not in support of the communist regime. Thirdly, it compiled a legislative body that was contradictory and made it impossible in reality the participation of other political forces in the elections. Fourthly, it made all the efforts to halt the creation of political parties of opposing nature. In this manner the KPA it ensured the victory in the elections of 2 December 1945. The victory of the Democratic Front was not as spectacular as presented. In the prefecture of Durrësi, Tirana, Shkodra and Peshkopia only 80% of the voters had voted for the candidates of the Front while abstained voters were plentiful. They reached up to 36.758 votes or 6.76% of the registered population. If it will be counted as votes against the Front all of the individuals that could not vote (because in an arbitrary way they had no right to vote), the persons that chose to abstain in order to show their disagreement with the Front and the votes against it then the victory of the Front and of the “popular” regime that was established in the country was more disputable.
