Summary/Abstract: After two decades of stagnation, Romanian economic history has recently shown remarkable signs of recovery. Since it was perceived as a Marxist discipline, large parts of the scientific community shied away from it. The small sample of books included in this review vividly demonstrates that the middle and younger generations of Romanian economic historians have caught up with international trends in economic history. They explore new topics such as business history and the history of economically relevant state institutions. They apply innovative methods that combine economic history with social anthropology and cultural studies. Last but not least, I would like to mention Bogdan Murgescu’s outstanding work, in which he analyzes the history of Romania’s economic development from 1500 to 2010 in comparison with Denmark, Ireland, and Serbia.
